KAFA Groups

KAFA Grupper vårtermin 2010

KAFA groups meet every week for 70 minutes.    På Svenska

The sessions include warm-ups that are sometimes based on ball skills, other times involve fun athletic and gymnastic games (usually with a ball involved) and can also involve gym equipment and circuits and even capoeira. Or sometimes a combination of all the above. We usually have music playing in the background too it helps create a good relaxed atmosphere and reinforces an appreciation of coordination, rhythm and balance.

Each session usually involves learning and practising new skills, including dribbles, feints, ball control and shooting; and sometimes we might use mats for goalkeeping practice, diving headers and overhead kicks.

All sessions culminate in games of indoor small-sided football, often with the small Brazilian futebol de salão ball. Parents are always welcome to join in the games. We always play with no referee, so the children learn the value of fair play and cooperation. And credit is always given for teamwork, attempts at exciting skills, and most of all fair, friendly and sporting play.

Making sure the kids have fun is always our number one priority. Our experience shows that having fun makes for fast and effective development.

Autumn term 2009

1. KAFA Skills (KAFA Teknikskola) - Fridays, 17.00-18.10

For boys and girls aged 9-11, beginners or experienced players. Have fun while you improve your football skills, balance, coordination, teamwork and self-confidence.  Lots of fun games and activities, but always ending with small-sided match play.

2. KAFA Junior Street - Fridays, 18.10-19.15

For boys and girls aged 11-13. Non-stop futebol de salão - learn to play the way the Brazilians do!

Sessions are always led by a qualified KAFA trainer and include a warm-up and down. However, we try to help the children learn to cooperate and play fair by recreating old-fashioned street football – no referees and changing teams round if it gets too easy.

Junior Street gives children the thrill of playing match after match, without the pressure of leagues and cups.

Since 2008 we have had great success using young trainers, or assistants, in Junior Street. These are trainers who  have grown with KAFA over a few years and are now able to develop leadership skills and give something to the younger members.

For the over-13s (and under-60s!) we have KAFA Street as usual, Fridays, 19.30-20.45.

Contact Aidan or Spiros for more information.

Previous Groups

KAFA ran three small groups at Västbergaskolan and Gustav Vasa Skolan from November 2006 to June 2007. The groups then amalgamated and many of the members joined the Friday groups at Västbergaskolan. As players have got older, some started coming to KAFA Street instead. Others have also become young trainers for Junior Street.
